Is that a reason why you’re here?
-nods her head as if it’s no big deal, sliding her notepad back in her pocket- Yes, so I apologize if I’m speaking a bit too loud or too quiet.
-just nods in response-
-softly shakes her head- No, no! You speak very well. That was what shocked me actually.
Why not? -she asks, tilting her head with a curious expression on her face-
-she takes a moment before responding- Sometimes I don’t feel like talking. Or reading lips. So I write or I make someone else write.
I stopped talking about a year ago.. And I just don’t want to any more. -shrugs slightly-
-looking slightly surprised- You’re deaf?
-nods once again before focusing her attention on the pad and writing- Depends. Writing and reading are easier for me and since you were writing… -she glances up- I can speak, though. -she says-
-nods, before smiling sheepishly- Sorry about that. I am, except I don’t really talk to anyone… Ever.
-shrugs- So how come you’ve got a notepad, if you don’t mind me asking?
-scans the notepad quickly, reading the girl’s words before nodding her head in response. Pulling out her own notepad and pen from her back pocket, she writes back- I’m Mara.
-smiling softly, she stands and walks over to her, still talking through the notepad- Nice to meet you, Mara. I’m Sky.
Are you selectively mute, or-?
So this is what a mental hospital is like.
-looking up at the girl from where she’s sat in the hallway, she picks up her note pad and pen, quickly writing down before holding up to her-
A Nurse let me draw her hair… I think it actually turned out quite well.
